Thursday, September 7 at 12:00 pm: Genealogy 101

  • This week will cover an introduction to genealogical research. Are you interested in learning about your family history but don’t know where to begin? This program will help you get started by introducing you to genealogical terms, techniques, and resources.

Thursday, September 14 at 12:00 pm: Census Records

  • This week will cover census records. Learn about what information is contained in each of the censuses and discover how to use all the various bits of information from the census as clues to further your research.

Thursday, September 28 at 12:00 pm: Vital Records

  • This week will cover vital records. Births, marriages, and deaths are important pieces of information for your family history. Become familiar with the key sources for locating your ancestors’ vital records.

Thursday, October 5 at 12:00 pm: Land Records

  • This week will cover land records. Learn about deeds, mortgages, platting, and surveys. Discover the difference between metes and bounds states and public land record states

Thursday, October 12 at 12:00 pm: Probate Records

  • This week will cover probate records. Learn what probate records are, where they are located, and how to best utilize them in your family history research.

Thursday, October 19 at 12:00 pm: Immigration Records

  • This week will cover immigration records. Immigration records are an incredibly rich source of information for the family historian. Learn more about your family’s history by using passenger lists and naturalization records.

Thursday, October 26 at 12:00 pm: Church & Cemetery Records

  • This week will cover church and cemetery records. Discover what type of information is contained in church and cemetery records, how to access them, and how they can help enhance your family history research.

Thursday, November 2 at 12:00 pm: Military Records

  • This week will cover military records. Military records have been created throughout our history regardless of whether or not there was a war being waged. Learn how military records can help you to uncover information on your ancestors.

Thursday, November 9 at 12:00 pm: DNA Testing

  • This week will cover DNA testing. Learn the basics of genetic genealogy and how DNA testing can supplement your traditional genealogical research. Explore the different types of tests that are available.

Thursday, November 16 at 12:00 pm: Ancestors' Stories in Newspapers

  • This week will cover newspaper research. Join us as we explore how you can use newspapers to expand your family history research and learn more about your ancestors.

This event occurs online through Zoom.  Please provide your email at registration to participate.  A device with access to the internet and speakers or headsets are required. An email will be sent before the event with more information on how to join.
