Learning Cube - Second Floor

Create a fun crochet project. Learn how to make magic ring, determine the front and back loop of a stitch, and use safety eyes while stitching a cute baby octopus.

  • Class Duration: 2 hours
  • Age Requirements: 9-12
  • Recommended Prerequisite: Crochet in the Round
  • Required Skills: Should know how make a slipknot, chain stitch, and single crochet. These are skills learned in Let's Crochet level 1.
  • Materials Fee: None

  • Materials: All materials will be provided for students. Students may bring the following materials to complete the project: 
  • Pattern: Baby Octopus by All From Jade  Please Note: Students must bring a printed copy of the pattern or be able to access it on a mobile device.
  • Yarn(s): 50 yards of size 6/bulky weight yarn i.e. blanket yarn
  • Hook(s): Size G-6 (4 mm)
  • Additional Materials: 12mm safety eyes with backs

Note: Crochet skills are necessary to be successful in this class. New to crochet? Check out Let's Crochet Level 1.

Level Description
Beginner Someone who grasps the most basic stitches and can finish simple patterns with aid.
Confident Beginner Someone who easily handles standard stitches and can follow simple patterns.
Intermediate Someone who can follow most patterns with ease, is able to read stitches and charts, and to whom working in the round is no longer a challenge.
Advanced Someone who can adjust patterns to their own preferences, substitute yarn, and produce neat results consistently in flat, round, lace, and three-dimensional projects.

Orlando Public Library is the headquarters and resource center for the Orange County Library System. The library has been located at this site since its beginnings as the Albertson Public Library in 1923. Public Reference Departments in Orlando Public Library include Children’s, Library Central, and Learning Central. The Children’s Library offers spacious areas, special programs, computers and story rooms for our youngest readers and readers to be. The Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center for Technology, Innovation and Creativity is located on the second floor. The Friends of the Library Third Floor Bookstore is open daily and recycles withdrawn and donated books to the community.
