Learn to stitch using Sashiko hand sewing techniques. This Japanese hand sewing technique uses the simple running stitch to form geometric patterns.

Sashiko hand sewing is a Japanese style hand sewing technique using the simple running stitch.  Beautiful designs are created when stitches are applied layer by layer and a pattern emerges. Learn step by step how to mark and hand sew to form the geometric design.  Suggested pre-requisite: basic hand sewing skills and how to thread a needle and sew the running stitch is required.  This month's featured pattern is Tulips.

Duration:  1 hour on Thursdays, April 3, 10, 17, 24

Materials:

• 1- 5" Square Fabric or fat quarter (solid color, preferably white, quilting cotton or linen-cotton blend fabric) 
• 1-2 colors skein of Sashiko Thread --may be substituted with Pearl Cotton thread Size 8  or Embroidery Thread (separated into 4 strands)  in a contrast color from solid color fabric square
• Ruler
• 1 light color and 1 contrast color Heat erasable fabric marker or water erasable fabric marker. Frixion Fineliner is recommended.
• hand sewing needle, preferably with a thin long eye for easier threading
• needle threader
• scissors
• some masking tape or painters'  tape (to hold down fabric while tracing
