Share in the magic as we create our own group of owls (a “parliament," ) or group of snails (an "escargatoire!") to add to this year's Yarnfiti display, an enchanted forest of handcrafted art.

Learn and advance your skills while knitting adorable little animals for our forest.  You will have the option of choosing between 2 patterns, Shellby the Snail, or Stuffy Owl both by Amanda Berry
Skills include increases & decreases to shaping, knitting stripes, duplicate stitching and seaming techniques.   

Once finished, you can submit your project for display this year's Yarnfiti Community Art Project: Enchanted Forest!

Note: Basic Knitting skills are necessary to be successful in this class. New to knitting?  Check out Knit Level 1.

  • Class Duration: This is a 2-part in-person class May 21 & 28
  • Age Requirements:18+
  • Recommended Prerequisite: Let's Knit Increases and Decreases
  • Recommended Skills: Someone who easily handles standard stitches and can follow simple patterns.

**Required Materials: students must bring the following materials to complete the project:

Students must bring a printed copy of pattern or be able to access it on a mobile device. 

  • Pattern / Yarn / Needles:

Shellby the Snail

 *Shellby the Snail is knitted in DK weight yarn or light worsted weight,
   in less than 25g in each of three shades: Brown, Pink & Blue or any colors of choice.
   Size US 4 Needles - or size to accommodate yarn used.

Stuffy Owl

 *Stuffy owl is knitted in medium/worsted weight,
   in less than 25g in each of three yarn shades: Grey, White  & Yellow or any colors of choice.
   Size US 7 Needles - or size to accommodate yarn used

  • Darning needle
  • Stuffing 
  • Ring/round stitch markers

Level Description
Beginner Someone who grasps the most basic stitches and can finish simple patterns with aid.
Confident Beginner Someone who easily handles standard stitches and can follow simple patterns.
Intermediate Someone who can follow most patterns with ease, is able to read stitches and charts, and to whom working in the round is no longer a challenge.
Advanced Someone who can adjust patterns to their own preferences, substitute yarn, and produce neat results consistently in flat, round, lace, and three-dimensional projects.

About the branch

Built in 2005, Winter Garden branch sits at the westernmost part of Orange County. This was the last branch opened before the Great Recession of 2008. Interestingly, this is the only branch in the county built on donated land. Two acres were donated by the family of former citrus grove owner, Sylvester C. Battaglia. S.C. Battaglia’s philosophy, as stated by his son, was to “give back to the community.” The branch’s formal name S.C. Battaglia Memorial Branch, honors his contribution.

Winter Garden Branch has all the charm of a small town library plus all of the resources available through Orange County Library System. Noted for friendly and helpful staff, the branch is now serving a third generation of patrons.
