Create your own witch hat for Halloween. This easy to make witch hat uses three fat quarters, interfacing and bias tape. Students are required to bring materials. See description for details.

  • Class Duration: 2 hours, 2 Parts
  • Age Requirements: 13-Adult with completed Sewing Lab Waiver, 11-12 with supervising adult and completed Sewing Lab Waiver
  • Recommended Prerequisite: Sewing - Introduction to the Sewing Machine
  • Required Skills: Someone who can sew straight and curved seams while keeping a consistent seam allowance, can thread a standard machine and wind a bobbin, has a basic understanding of different fabric types and has completed several projects.
  • Materials Fee: None
  • Out of District Fee: $10 (includes class and materials fees)

Materials: Students must bring the following materials to complete the project:

  • 3 – ½ yds of fabric.
  • 1½ yards of medium weight fusible interfacing
  • One package of double fold bias tape 
  • One package of single fold bias tape

Level Description
Beginner Someone has used a sewing machine before but may need aid on threading the machine and may need additional practice keeping an even seam allowance.
Confident Beginner Someone who can sew straight and curved seams while keeping a consistent seam allowance, can thread a standard machine and wind a bobbin, has a basic understanding of different fabric types and has completed several projects.
Intermediate Someone who is comfortable with working and threading sewing machines, sewing patterns with markings and notations, has an understanding of fabric types and interfacing, and has experience with using a variety of tools, notions, and presser feet.
Advanced Someone who is comfortable with working and threading both sewing machines and sergers, sewing patterns with markings and notations, has an understanding of both woven and knit fabric types and interfacing, and has experience using a wide variety of tools, notions, and presser feet.

About the branch

Southwest Branch opened on March 21, 1989 in a beautiful Mediterranean style building designed by Schweizer and Associates Architecture Firm, who also designed the Orlando Public Library. Serving the Dr. Phillips and Metrowest communities, Southwest is near International Drive and the attractions. Southwest is a popular place for local adults, children, students and tourists.
