You can easily organize all your sewing tools with an easy to make hanging organizer. Learn how to cut fabric, attach bias tape, and top stitch. Students are required to bring fabric.

Celebrate National sewing month by creating a fun sewing project. Create a hanging organizer for the home or office. Learn how to cut the fabric, sew straight lines, attach bias tape, and top stitch.  

  • Class Duration: 2 hours
  • Age Requirements: 13-Adult with completed Sewing Lab Waiver, 11-12 with supervising adult and completed Sewing Lab Waiver
  • Recommended Prerequisite: Sewing - Introduction to the Sewing Machine
  • Required Skills: Someone who can sew straight and curved seams while keeping a consistent seam allowance, can thread a standard machine and wind a bobbin, has a basic understanding of different fabric types and has completed several projects.
  • Materials Fee: None
  • Out of District Fee: $10 (includes class and materials fees)

Materials: Students must bring the following materials to complete the project:

  • Recommended Fabrics: 100% cotton or heavier weight fabric such as canvas (heavier fabric won't need the fleece).
  •  Fabric: (2) 1-yard coordinating fabric (fabric width 45")
  • 1-yard heavy interfacing
  • 1 package of 7/8 inch Double fold quilt binding bias tape
  • Thread to match

Level Description
Beginner Someone has used a sewing machine before but may need aid on threading the machine and may need additional practice keeping an even seam allowance.
Confident Beginner Someone who can sew straight and curved seams while keeping a consistent seam allowance, can thread a standard machine and wind a bobbin, has a basic understanding of different fabric types and has completed several projects.
Intermediate Someone who is comfortable with working and threading sewing machines, sewing patterns with markings and notations, has an understanding of fabric types and interfacing, and has experience with using a variety of tools, notions, and presser feet.
Advanced Someone who is comfortable with working and threading both sewing machines and sergers, sewing patterns with markings and notations, has an understanding of both woven and knit fabric types and interfacing, and has experience using a wide variety of tools, notions, and presser feet.

About the branch

LYNX Bus Link 41 State Road 436

North Orange Branch began as a bookmobile station in 1950, and was replaced by a branch in 1964. Moving to the Palm Plaza Shopping Center in 1969, the branch occupied a 3500 square foot space there for twenty years. In 1989 the branch moved to its present 12,000 square foot facility. As the name implies, North Orange Branch serves the areas of Apopka, Plymouth, Zellwood, Tangerine, and environs.
