Fiber Arts Studio - Second FloorCome to the Sewing Studio at the Orlando Public Library and bring your sewing projects. All the tools are here for you. Participants are required to bring their own patterns and materials.
Come to the Sewing Studio at the Orlando Public Library and bring your sewing projects. All the tools are here to create your projects. Participants must bring all of the fabric, patterns, thread and notions (e.g. interfacing, zippers, etc.) needed for the project.
- Open Lab Duration: 4 hours
- Age Requirements: 13-Adult with completed Sewing Lab Waiver
- Recommended Prerequisite: Sewing - Introduction to the Sewing Machine
- Required Skills: Someone who can sew straight and curved seams while keeping a consistent seam allowance, can thread a standard machine and wind a bobbin, has a basic understanding of different fabric types and has completed several projects.
- Materials Fee: None
- Out of District Fee: $10 (includes class and materials fees)

Prerequisites to use a sewing machine:
- Sewing: Introduction to the Sewing Machine
OR - Participants must be able to wind a bobbin, thread a sewing machine, sew straight seams, read simple patterns and cut fabric with minimal assistance.

Prerequisites to use a serger:
- Sewing: Introduction to the Serger
- Sewing: Threading a Serger
OR - Participants must be able to serge fabric, thread a serger and adjust thread tensions.

Cricut Maker:
- You must provide your own materials for the Cricut Maker. We provide only the tools.

| Level | Description |
| Beginner | Someone has used a sewing machine before but may need aid on threading the machine and may need additional practice keeping an even seam allowance. |
| Confident Beginner | Someone who can sew straight and curved seams while keeping a consistent seam allowance, can thread a standard machine and wind a bobbin, has a basic understanding of different fabric types and has completed several projects. |
| Intermediate | Someone who is comfortable with working and threading sewing machines, sewing patterns with markings and notations, has an understanding of fabric types and interfacing, and has experience with using a variety of tools, notions, and presser feet. |
| Advanced | Someone who is comfortable with working and threading both sewing machines and sergers, sewing patterns with markings and notations, has an understanding of both woven and knit fabric types and interfacing, and has experience using a wide variety of tools, notions, and presser feet. |

Orlando Public Library is the headquarters and resource center for the Orange County Library System. The library has been located at this site since its beginnings as the Albertson Public Library in 1923. Public Reference Departments in Orlando Public Library include Children’s, Library Central, and Learning Central. The Children’s Library offers spacious areas, special programs, computers and story rooms for our youngest readers and readers to be. The Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center for Technology, Innovation and Creativity is located on the second floor. The Friends of the Library Third Floor Bookstore is open daily and recycles withdrawn and donated books to the community.
