Sewing - Mini Duffle Bag (3 Parts)

West Oaks - Technology ClassroomThis mini duffle is the perfect gym or overnight bag! Practice decorative stitching, installing a zipper, installing handles, and sewing on a curve in this three part class.
- Class Duration: 2 hours
- Age Requirements: Adult, 18 and up.
- Recommended Prerequisite: Any project class where you have installed a zipper
- Required Skills: Someone who is comfortable with working and threading sewing machines, sewing patterns with markings and notations, has an understanding of fabric types and interfacing, and has experience with using a variety of tools, notions, and presser feet.
Required Materials: Students will need the following materials to complete the project:
- Pattern: Free Coats & Clark Grab & Go Duffle Bag Sewing Pattern | Yarnspirations
- ½ yard (.46m) of cotton canvas.
- 1/3 yard (.30m) contrast cotton canvas for strap loops and bag circle end.
- 16" (41cm) All-purpose Zipper.
- 11/8" (1.03m) yard of 1st color of 1" (2.5cm) wide webbing for bag handles (or 1/2 yard of fabric to create straps using bias tape method)
- 11/8" (1.03m) yard of 2nd color of 1" (2.5cm) wide webbing for bag handles (or 1/2 yard of fabric to create straps using bias tape method)
- 1 yard of 3rd color 1" (2.5cm) wide webbing for shoulder strap (or 1/2 yard of fabric to create straps using bias tape method)
- (2) 1" (2.5cm) rectangle rings (these can also be provided by instructor)
- 4" (10cm) of 3/8 (9mm) ribbon for zipper pull. (this can also be provided by the instructor)

| Level | Description |
| Beginner | Someone has used a sewing machine before but may need aid on threading the machine and may need additional practice keeping an even seam allowance. |
| Confident Beginner | Someone who can sew straight and curved seams while keeping a consistent seam allowance, can thread a standard machine and wind a bobbin, has a basic understanding of different fabric types and has completed several projects. |
| Intermediate | Someone who is comfortable with working and threading sewing machines, sewing patterns with markings and notations, has an understanding of fabric types and interfacing, and has experience with using a variety of tools, notions, and presser feet. |
| Advanced | Someone who is comfortable with working and threading both sewing machines and sergers, sewing patterns with markings and notations, has an understanding of both woven and knit fabric types and interfacing, and has experience using a wide variety of tools, notions, and presser feet. |

West Oaks Branch and Genealogy Center is located in the historic city of Ocoee near the intersection of Silver Star and Clark Roads. The branch opened in August 2001 and was designed by Harvard, Jolly, Clees, Toppe Architecture Firm. West Oaks Branch provides exceptional library services to the nearly 50,000 residents of Ocoee and surrounding areas. In January 2015, the branch became the new Genealogy Center for Orange County, housing a collection of over 30,000 genealogy books. The Library is the official repository of the Florida State Society Daughters of the American Revolution. The construction of West Oaks Branch and Genealogy Center was funded by the Library System and a Florida Library Construction Grant.
