This study group focuses the role of evidence and citation in genealogical research as outlined in Elizabeth Shown Mills' Evidence Explained 4th Edition Chapters 1 through 3. Each session covers key principles, offering practical exercises to solidify citation and evaluation skills for various genealogical sources.
January 8th Week 1: The Role of Evidence in Genealogical Research will cover and introduction to the importance of evidence in genealogical research and overview of source types (original, derivative, authored) and evidence categories (direct, indirect, negative).
January 15th Week 2: Building Clear and Effective Citations will cover the purpose and components of a citation in genealogical research and citation fundamentals focusing on precision, clarity, and flexibility.
January 22nd Week 3: Adapting Citation Models to Diverse Sources will focused on techniques for citing various sources, including complex or unusual records (e.g., unpublished manuscripts, online databases) and will also include a discussion of citation nuances.
