Stockings are a must-have for the holidays. Use a simple pattern to create a custom stocking. Learn some basic lining and cuff sewing techniques. Students are required to bring fabric.

  • Class Duration: 2 hours
  • Age Requirements: 13-Adult with completed Sewing Lab Waiver, 11-12 with supervising adult and completed Sewing Lab Waiver
  • Recommended Prerequisite: Sewing - Introduction to the Sewing Machine 
  • Required Skills: Someone has used a sewing machine before but may need aid on threading the machine and may need additional practice keeping an even seam allowance.
  • Materials Fee: None
  • Out of District Fee: $10 (includes class and materials fees)

Required Materials: Students must bring the following materials to complete the project:

  • Recommended Fabrics: Stocking: Quilting Cotton or Fat Quarters; Cuff: Corduroy or Velvet
  • Stocking and Lining: Two 22” x 18” Fabric Remnants (or Fat Quarters)
  • Contrast (Cuff): One 22” x 18” Fabric Remnant (or Fat Quarter)
  • Contrast (Heel and Toe Patches): One 13” X 7” Fabric Remnant (or Fat Quarter)
  • Loop: 1” x 8 1/2” Ribbon

Level Description
Beginner Someone has used a sewing machine before but may need aid on threading the machine and may need additional practice keeping an even seam allowance.
Confident Beginner Someone who can sew straight and curved seams while keeping a consistent seam allowance, can thread a standard machine and wind a bobbin, has a basic understanding of different fabric types and has completed several projects.
Intermediate Someone who is comfortable with working and threading sewing machines, sewing patterns with markings and notations, has an understanding of fabric types and interfacing, and has experience with using a variety of tools, notions, and presser feet.
Advanced Someone who is comfortable with working and threading both sewing machines and sergers, sewing patterns with markings and notations, has an understanding of both woven and knit fabric types and interfacing, and has experience using a wide variety of tools, notions, and presser feet.

Washington Park Branch serves the Carver Shores and Metrowest areas, along with the many other subdivisions and local businesses surrounding it. The Washington Park branch has a history that dates back to 1924. It is a combination of the former Booker T. Washington and Washington Shores Libraries. The two branches combined as one and opened in this current location on April 11, 1984. Although small, the glass walls on the front and back of the building create a bright, airy and comfortable atmosphere.
