About the Author
Kelly Yang is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Front Desk series, Finally Heard, Finally Seen, New From Here, and the young adult novels Parachutes and Private Label. Front Desk was awarded the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature and Parents' Choice Gold Medal in 2019, was the 2019 Global Read Aloud selection, and was named a Best Book of the Year by multiple publications, including Kirkus Reviews, the School Library Journal, and more.
Kelly immigrated to America when she was 6 years old and grew up in Southern California, where she and her parents worked in three different motels. She graduated from UC Berkeley at the age of 13 and Harvard Law School at the age of 17. After law school, she gave up law to pursue her passion for writing and teaching. She is the founder of The Kelly Yang Project, a leading writing and debating program for children in Asia. As a writing teacher of 13 years, Kelly has helped thousands of children find their voice and become better writers and more powerful speakers. She was previously a columnist for the South China Morning Post for many years, and her writing has been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Atlantic. She lives with her husband, three children, and two dogs in Los Angeles.
