Bookbinding – Japanese Stab Binding (2 Part)

Fiber Arts Studio - Second FloorHand sewing an artist book is a rewarding skill and there are many traditional methods to choose from. In this class we will practice Four Hole, Noble, Hemp Leaf and Tortoise Shell Binding.
Hand sewing an artist book is a rewarding skill and there are many traditional methods to choose from. In the first part of this class series, we will practice Four Hole Binding (Yotsume Toji) and Noble Binding (Koki Toji). In the second part of this series, we will practice Hemp Leaf Binding (Asa-No-Ha Toji) and Tortoise Shell Binding (Kikko Toji).
- Class Duration: 2 parts, 2 hours per part
- Age Requirements: Adult
- Recommended Prerequisite: None

Required Skills: Folding paper, cutting with scissors and X-acto knife.
Suggested Materials: All materials listed below will be provided. However, students are welcome to bring various decorative paper to construct their books.
- 8.5” x 11” Letter sized-paper (approximately 24-30 sheets)
- Plain copy paper or decorative paper but thinner than cardstock
- 8.5” x 11” Letter Cardstock (approximately 4-6 sheets)
- Scissors
- Binder clips
- Bone folder
- Awl
- Linen Thread
- Bookbinding needle

Orlando Public Library is the headquarters and resource center for the Orange County Library System. The library has been located at this site since its beginnings as the Albertson Public Library in 1923. Public Reference Departments in Orlando Public Library include Children’s, Library Central, and Learning Central. The Children’s Library offers spacious areas, special programs, computers and story rooms for our youngest readers and readers to be. The Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center for Technology, Innovation and Creativity is located on the second floor. The Friends of the Library Third Floor Bookstore is open daily and recycles withdrawn and donated books to the community.
