Author José Pablo Iriarte will clarify the difference between premise and story, share brainstorming techniques with this difference in mind, and show how to flesh those idea nuggets into story gold.
Ask an aspiring writer what their story is about, and too often you get descriptions of characters or settings or lists of events that happen, but no sense that there's an actual STORY underneath all that. Often it's because the writer doesn't actually understand the difference between a story and a premise or a vignette. Whether you're a plotter or a pantser, understanding the difference will help you to flesh out your inspirations with the seeds of dramatic tension and a coherent narrative throughline. This presentation will clarify the difference between a premise and a story, share brainstorming techniques that keep this difference in mind, and then show how to flesh those idea nuggets into story gold.
