Part of Our Eclipse Celebrations. Learn about the different phases the moon goes through, the upcoming eclipse and travel into deep space to explore the universe. Two solar eclipses are coming to North America – an Annular Eclipse on October 14, 2023 and a Total Solar Eclipse on April 8, 2024. Thanks to a grant from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and a supplement to the NASA @ My Library Project, the Space Science Institute’s STAR Net team is providing solar viewing glasses to public libraries. To receive your solar viewing glasses (while supplies last) you must attend a program presented by the Orange County Library System related to the upcoming eclipses. When attending an event, class or meeting at the Orange County Library System, Please follow all CDC guidelines pertaining to COVID-19. Please help keep each other healthy and safe.

The Hiawassee Branch began as a bookmobile station in 1962 and was first known as the Pine Hills Library. In later moves the branch became the West Colonial branch and in March 2000, Hiawassee. In early 2010, the Hiawassee Branch moved to a new home near the corner of Hiawassee Road and West Colonial Drive in the Highland Lakes shopping plaza.
