Winter Garden - Technology LabMaster the Corner-to-Corner (C2C) crochet technique by stitching a spooky Halloween Coaster! Learn diagonal increases, color changes, and graph reading in one quick project.
By working diagonally from one corner to the other, you increase your blocks row by row until you reach the center, then decrease to form a crisp, neat square. As you stitch your tiny ghost, pumpkin, bat, or witches hat motif, you will naturally practice essential skills like managing small bobbins, carrying yarn neatly on the wrong side, and turning sharp diagonal corners, all while creating a festive piece of seasonal Halloween Decor.
- Class Duration: 2 parts / 2 hours per part
- Age Requirements: Adult
- Required Skills: Someone who grasps the most basic stitches and can finish simple patterns with aid.
- Recommended Prerequisite: Crochet in the Round

*Required Materials: Students must bring the following materials to complete the project*:

Students must bring a printed copy of pattern or be able to access it on a mobile device. -
Option A (Best for approx 4.5"-5" Coaster)
- Yarn: Size 10 Crochet Thread (or Fingering/Lace weight yarn) -- approx 65yds total of all colors
- Hook: 1.50 mm to 2.25 mm (US Steel 2 to Regular B/1)

Option B (Best for a 5.5" Mug Rug/Large Coaster)
- Yarn: Sport weight yarn (Category 2) or fine Sock yarn -- approx 70-80yds total of all colors
- Hook: 2.5 mm to 3.0 mm (US C/2)

Option C (just to learn the c2c method and make a approx 10-12"square)
- Yarn:Worsted weight (#4) yarn -- approx 150yds total of all colors white, orange, black, or neon green (scrap amounts under 25 yards total per coaster).
- Hook: Size 4.00mm Crochet Hook or size needed to keep stitches tight and flat.

Built in 2005, Winter Garden branch sits at the westernmost part of Orange County. This was the last branch opened before the Great Recession of 2008. Interestingly, this is the only branch in the county built on donated land. Two acres were donated by the family of former citrus grove owner, Sylvester C. Battaglia. S.C. Battaglia’s philosophy, as stated by his son, was to “give back to the community.” The branch’s formal name S.C. Battaglia Memorial Branch, honors his contribution.
Winter Garden Branch has all the charm of a small town library plus all of the resources available through Orange County Library System. Noted for friendly and helpful staff, the branch is now serving a third generation of patrons.
