Winter Garden - Technology Lab

Build knitting skills 1 square at a time! We'll focus on 2 new stitches per month. Come for one or all & create beautiful squares, perfect for a sampler blanket. *Students must bring tools & yarn.*

Note: Knitting skills are necessary to be successful in this class. New to knitting? Check out Knit Level 1.

Much Ado about Bobbles ....We'll create a textured bobble stitch with staggered bunches of stitches that resemble a raspberry bush. This vintage texture is also known as the Trinity, Cluster, Blackberry and Bramble Stitch. Take away a beautiful handmade dishcloth or a block for an afghan project.

Class Duration: 2 hours per class
Age Requirements: 13-Adult
Required Skills: Someone who grasps the most basic stitches and can finish simple patterns with aid.
Materials Fee: None

*Required Materials: Students must bring the following materials to complete the project*:

  • Yarn:  approx 100 yards of worsted weight yarn (medium/size 4)
      - Dishcloth: Cotton or cotton blends work best (wool doesn't work well due to moisture absorption)
      - Afghan Square: any medium worsted weight yarn
  • Needles: Size US 8 (5.0 mm) or recommended needle size for your yarn
  • Ring/round stitch markers
Level Description
Beginner Someone who grasps the most basic stitches and can finish simple patterns with aid.

About the branch

LYNX Bus Link 105 West Colonial

LYNX Bus Link 612 NeighborLink 612 / Winter Garden

Built in 2005, Winter Garden branch sits at the westernmost part of Orange County. This was the last branch opened before the Great Recession of 2008. Interestingly, this is the only branch in the county built on donated land. Two acres were donated by the family of former citrus grove owner, Sylvester C. Battaglia. S.C. Battaglia’s philosophy, as stated by his son, was to “give back to the community.” The branch’s formal name S.C. Battaglia Memorial Branch, honors his contribution.

Winter Garden Branch has all the charm of a small town library plus all of the resources available through Orange County Library System. Noted for friendly and helpful staff, the branch is now serving a third generation of patrons.
