Fiber Arts Studio - Second Floor

A versatile project inspired by the romantic corsetry of historical garments and fantasy costuming. Students are required to bring materials.

Using a combination of Tunisian and standard crochet, students will learn to create a waist accessory that adds contour to an otherwise shapeless ensemble. Techniques to customize the length and shape of the belt will be demonstrated as well as decorative stitching methods. This project is a 4-part series with classes on 04/11/2025, 04/18/2025, 04/25/2025, and 05/02/2025

  • Class Duration: 2 hours, 4 Parts
  • Age Requirements: Adults
  • Recommended Prerequisite: Crochet Level 1 and 2
  • Required Skills: Chain stitch, single crochet
  • Materials Fee: none
  • Out of District Fee: $10 (includes class and materials fees)

Required Materials: The following materials are needed to complete the project: 

  • DK (#3) weight cotton yarn
    • Main color
    • Contrast color
  • A crochet hook that corresponds to selected yarn weight.
  • A Tunisian/Afghan hook in the same size or one size larger than selected crochet hook.

Level Description
Beginner Someone who grasps the most basic stitches and can finish simple patterns with aid.
Confident Beginner Someone who easily handles standard stitches and can follow simple patterns.
Intermediate Someone who can follow most patterns with ease, is able to read stitches and charts, and to whom working in the round is no longer a challenge.
Advanced Someone who can adjust patterns to their own preferences, substitute yarn, and produce neat results consistently in flat, round, lace, and three-dimensional projects.

The library has been located at this site since its beginnings as the Albertson Public Library in 1923. Public Reference Departments in Orlando Public Library include Children’s, Library Central, and Learning Central. The Children’s Library offers spacious areas, special programs, computers and story rooms for our youngest readers and readers to be. The Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center for Technology, Innovation and Creativity is located on the second floor. The Friends of the Library Third Floor Bookstore is open daily and recycles withdrawn and donated books to the community.
