Windermere - Ask at Desk

Children will explore stories and activities that introduce them to the Arabic language and teach them about understanding and celebrating cultures outside of their own. Recommended for ages 6-12.

This event will introduce children to the Arabic language through story, a sensory activity, and a puzzle-based activity. Children will also have the opportunity to create a decorative lantern used to commemorate Ramadan, an important month for many Arabs around the world. Learning objectives include learning about the Arabic alphabet, identifying unique features of the Arabic alphabet, making comparisons between Arabic and English terms, and learning about another culture’s practices and art forms.

About the branch

Located in a small “Florida Cracker” style building, with an appealing wrap-around porch, the Windermere branch has an interesting history that spans over four decades. Begun as a town library, it became a branch of the Orange County Library System in August 1991. The current building was constructed through the efforts and the generous donations of many Windermere residents, including those of the Franklin P. Chase Family.
